Fred Peters sold his first painting when he was 15 and though he occasionally paints, sold no more until February 2010. Despite this, he has worked for twenty-five years as a self taught artist, primarily as a jeweller, sculptor and glass artist with some of his work incorporating all three disciplines.
Since 2010 Fred has exhibited with other selected KI artists for South Australian Living Artists Festival (SALA) at the National Wine Centre every August. Coast and Seagrass meadows was the conservation theme featured in 2012 when Professor Sean Connell of the University of Adelaide opened the exhibition.
Fred’s art jewellery pieces in precious metal are delicate sterling silver pieces . He has spent thousands of hours fishing, snorkeling and crabbing over the Posidonia meadows in St Vincents Gulf and around the Island, and has seen the total demise of some areas of the Gulf.
Fred is inspired by the relatively good health of the Island’s seagrass meadows and the tiny creatures that inhabit them. These earrings bring the delicate halophila to life in sterling silver.
