Cecilia Gunnarsson has exhibited at Fine Art Kangaroo Island since 2010 and the new and recent paintings for this exhibition celebrate a renewed focus on her fine arts practice.
Cecilia is an accomplished artist originally from Sweden. She lived a country lifestyle close to nature before completing formal studies in design, illustration, printmaking, and painting at Gothenburg University. On moving to Australia, she became fascinated with the different light and muted colours of our dry landscapes.
Talented and highly skilled, Cecilia paints mainly in oils, expressing light and form with patterns of colour and brushstrokes. Close up these works comprise abstract marks but at distance reveal thoughtful, contemplative compositions that express the wonder the artist feels for Kangaroo Island and the exotic landscapes of her adopted home.
The artist has affinity for our Australian trees, their dappled light, sparseness of canopy and asymmetric shape. So different yet reminiscent of the wooded landscape of her Swedish childhood.
