Jewellery and Cocktails a sparkling solution to Christmas gift challenges
It’s December, and that means Christmas is just around the corner.
If your Christmas gift list includes stunning jewellery for yourself or that special someone, now’s the time to Bling It On! That’s the theme of our 7th annual Fine Art Kangaroo Island jewellery cocktail party and exhibition, kicking off on Thursday December 8th.
If you’ve joined us before for this perfect summer evening event, you already know this is not your average, every day exhibition. You’ve also been waiting all year as we have.
Bling It On brings together twelve Kangaroo Island jewellery artists, a delightful garden setting, and an outstanding Kangaroo Island Spirits cocktail experience.
We all know how hard it can be to select the perfect jewellery gift, especially when that special someone is more than a little choosy. You know what we mean. Even when you find the piece you think is perfect, there is always that nagging doubt. Will they love it or hate it? How will it look on a real person, instead of in a glass case?
Well Bling It On is your chance to solve all those challenges in just one evening, while sipping cocktails in our Wabi Sabi sculpture garden.
Without doubt the most effortless exhibition experience you’ll have all year, it’s essentially a live-model jewellery show.
Women, men, boys and girls walk the garden, showcasing each featured jewellery piece. You can relax and enjoy fine cocktails and good company as you watch the passing show.
35 local models are busy coordinating their outfits to match the unique art jewellery of our exhibiting jewellers.
Kangaroo Island Spirits cocktail artists are busy preparing for the event as well. This year they come to Bling It On as holders of the national title for Best Australian Made Gin 2016.
Bling It On is the perfect gift solution for those with very particular tastes. Just bring them with you for a fantastic summer evening event and you’ll know what they love most before the evening ends.
An exquisite collection of wearable art, the exhibition features our most popular jewellery artists.
Choose from the work of Fred Peters, Lilly Griffith Silvio Apponyi, Peggy Rismiller, Anne Morrison, Cecilia Gunnarsson, Joyleen Cowin, Gay De Mather, Sue Rawkins, Patti Blucher, Bea Chuan, or Kate Welz.
You’ll find a little of everything in the work these artists contribute to the exhibition. From traditional to contemporary, sterling silver to delicate fabric, found material to hand crafted glass, there is jewellery for men, women and children. Every piece is a Kangaroo Island artist original.
Cecilia Gunnarsson comes to Bling It On fresh from the national design event Bowerbird, and you will have to be quick to snap up her quirky range of bright colorful metal bangles, earrings and necklaces.
After an outstanding contribution to our National Wine Centre exhibition in August, Peggy Rismiller is back with a stunning range of hand crafted precious and or semi precious gemstones.
Perhaps most eye-catching is the striking necklace display at right featuring hot red inclusions. Reminiscent of tiny red chilli peppers, this piece is sure to attract attention at your end of year events.
If you’d rather something a little more delicate, take a look at Peggy’s beautiful Native Garden Earrings.
Fine Art Kangaroo Island’s resident artist Fred Peters introduces a new range of stunning silver jewellery. And if you are a lady on the lookout for “Boy Toys” for that special Christmas gift, take a look at Fred’s gorgeous range for men.
Each of our exhibiting jewellers draws upon their relationship with island life as they work. Colours and silhouettes are drawn from this special place, interpreted and reflected in the pieces exhibited in Bling It On.
For some the connection is more raw, perhaps more emotionally charged than we might expect. This is true of a delicately set selection exhibited by Gay De Mather. Each delicate native seed pod and gum nut in this collection has undergone a process called Pyrolysis. The result is a hardened, almost metallic flat black finish.
But the story here is not that Gay has been experimenting with a new way of finishing each tiny piece from the gum trees and sheoaks she collects around her property. The story is that each was rescued from a sealed tin found among the ashes of Gay’s studio after fire took her home at Stokes Bay.
Silvio Apponyi joins the annual exhibition as a first-time exhibitor. Silvio has produced a small number of finely detailed fossil brooches cast in sterling silver. The fossils which inspire these stunning pieces were found on Kangaroo Island.
Whether bought as a christmas gift, or simply an indulgence, these striking brooches are sure to attract attention when worn.
Patti Blucher has been hard at work, preparing for the return of the delicately beaded ‘Random Gatherings’ range. These ever popular treasures are lovingly re-imagined using components gathered from friends’ pre-loved jewellery.
If you’d like to know the story behind your favourite piece, Patti and each of our exhibitors will be on hand to share it.
These are just a handful of the exhibitors whose work is featured in Bling It On. With twelve outstanding artists contributing, there are more than 100 beautiful jewellery pieces on offer.
We know there’s at least one piece among them that’s perfect for you.
And with so many stunning options to choose from, chances are there’s more than one. Give it some thought.
All your Christmas gift giving challenges could be wiped away in one evening as our live models bring the exhibition to you against the backdrop of the Wabi Sabi garden.
When you find the perfect piece, for yourself or perhaps “just because”, we’ll take care of your purchase on the spot. Just let us know if you need to complete your purchase next day. We’ll hold the piece for collection.
Bling It On opens at 5.15pm on Thursday December 8th, the perfect end to busy pre-christmas work day. Join us in the garden for this moving exhibition from the Island’s best jewellery artists.
